A bit about us

Our goal is to provide an exciting and fun process of design to get your project off on the right foot. Making improvements to your home or starting a new one can seem like a daunting task and like all adventures there can be the unexpected, un-thought of, or just forgotten aspects that keep the fear of the unknown gnawing. Having gone through this process many times we bring to the table a steady look at the task of getting from an idea to a final project ready for inhabiting.

The primary design is done by Ralph Edwards. Ralph started in the building trade in the mid 1970s with a hands-on background in all areas of residential construction. In 1987 after returning to school he graduated with a degree in design and was certified by AutoCAD to do computer assisted drafting. While building a design business, Ralph worked off and on in the field through 1995 when design became the only pursuit.

 The field experience has proved an invaluable asset with insight into the way a building goes together in a way many don’t understand.

Workable Design started in Sacramento, California as a drafting and permit service back in 1987, mostly working for contractors to help with the changing building codes and plan submission to the various bureaucracies that over see construction projects. While design, drafting and the permit process is the core of our work we also do site evaluation prior to the beginning of the construction design. Our involvement doesn’t stop with the permit either. We can provide oversight through construction and often act as a liaison between the contractor / builder and the property owner to insure the owners’ wishes are being met.
